A notary, judge, and causidici (public legal counsel) who wrote a number of social treatises, Albertano da Brescia is considered to be a forerunner of fourteenth-century humanists like Dante Alighieri and Petrarch. His work, influenced by classical authors like Seneca and Cicero, was chiefly concerned with the ideal, peaceful society, conspicuously absent in the Italy of his day. For further information, see:
