Saint Thomas Aquinas was an Italian Catholic priest in the Order of Preachers, a philosopher and theologian in the scholastic tradition. He was the foremost proponent of natural theology, which is based on reason and avoids recourse to supernatural explanations. He is still considered by many Catholics to be the Church’s greatest theologian. The Summa Theologica is Aquinas’ most famous and influential work. It is a compilation of all of the Church’s main theological teachings, intended as a manual for Christians. It summarizes the reasons behind almost all major points of Catholic teaching. Two portions of the work, the Treaties on Habits and the Treatise on Law are available in English online through wikisources. This website should be used cautiously, however, because it can be edited by casual observers and lacks any indication as to the pagination in the original source.
