Rumi was a Persian poet, jurist, and theologian. He has been highly influential on many different religions throughout the centuries: much Iranian and Afghan music is based on his poetry, his poetry is considered the best introduction to the philosophy and practices of Sufism, and has been translated into dozens of languages. He is known for his mysticism, his search for personal unity with God, and for religious views that are compatible with many faiths. “The Fairest Land”, one of Rumi’s poems, can be found on the Internet Medieval Sourcebook.
