Comments:
This is a collection of sermons written by Isaac of Stella, an English-born Cistercian abbot at the monastery of Stelle in Poitiers. These sermons are written for various times in the liturgical calendar, and so not only do they express Isaac’s personal theology, they show how sermons were tailored for particular celebrations throughout the year. This edition contains an appendix which is a note from the translator discussing various aspects of the translation of the sermons. The edition also contains a list of abbreviations.
Introduction Summary:
The introduction (ix-xxv), written by Bernard McGinn, discusses Isaac’s world, his life, his career, his written works, and his thoughts.
